Because labeling and packaging are not enough!
Beginnings of Baked Smart
Michael Treadway and Leah D'Ambrosio moved to Portland, Oregon to create a cannabis edibles company called Sconed. After developing a cannabis-infused toasted toffee they were concerned that their product looked and tasted so delicious that the average person wouldn't think twice about eating it.
Edibles are an amazing way to use cannabis, especially for those who can't or don't wish to inhale smoke, but they look identical to regular food. This creates a situation where children and adults are at risk for accidental consumption. Ingesting edible marijuana without knowing can be frightening and unpleasant no matter how old you are.
They looked for a solution to this problem, but quickly realized there was no easy way to identify cannabis edibles once they were outside the package. Wishing to create a safe, responsible product they would feel comfortable with on the market without abandoning their dream of making decadent, gourmet edibles, Michael and Leah created their own solution.
Baked Smart’s exclusive product, Cannacals™, are the industry’s first edible safety decals made for easy and direct application to edibles. They make it possible to distinguish a regular food item from a food that contains cannabis. Cannacals™ can easily be applied to almost any food product, including candy, chocolate, and baked goods.
There are many types of Cannacals™ that edibles companies can use on a variety of food products. We have also begun producing Cannacals™ Home Kits. They are designed for consumers to have a simple, quick way to apply edible safety symbols to their cannabis edibles. Cannacals™ can be baked on at home, or easily affixed to a cannabis-infused product purchased from a dispensary.
For edible companies in Colorado, we are proud to bring you a high quality, low cost solution to the recent regulations passed by the State of Colorado. We produce !THC and !THC M symbols and provide a variety of ways to apply them. By incorporating Cannacals™ into your manufacturing process, you can inexpensively mark your edibles for compliance purposes.
A Unique Opportunity
For edible companies outside of Colorado this is a unique opportunity for you as an individual business, as well as a member of a larger evolving industry, to be proactive in the interest of edibles safety. Baked Smart supports putting the green cross, an internationally recognized symbol for cannabis medication, on all edibles.
Baked Smart encourages consumers and companies to help us spread awareness about edible safety by sharing the Green Cross Initiative.
